Robert Curgenven has previously lived and worked in and around Darwin and Alice Springs in the Northern Territory, East Kimberleys and South Australia, without really knowing how to use a camera. He made "field recordings" with a DAT recorder to try to capture the "feel" of these places and also for when the weather gets a bit crazy. The weather perhaps helps explain the big gaps in his CV when he disappeared "Out Bush" and his appreciation for quieter sounds.
The development of his music has been strongly affected by his time in remote parts of Australia and influenced his decision to return to the bush where he currently works in a community cultural development context in a small town and nearby remote Indigenous communities in northern Australia.
Rob doesn't use a computer nor processing to make his music and mixes it by hand. He will play sounds from "Out Bush" on the Day of the Archived Sounds, on February 10th, at Gallery Takt. On the Day of the Berlin Soundscapes, February 11th, in the Electronic Church, he will use his freshly captured sounds from Berlin. Rob Curgenven has a degree in Philosophy and is a classically trained organist.
